In December 2015, Royal Pirates have come back with their third EP album [3.3] and title song “Run Away.” The MV features images symbolic of an event in each of the member’s lives. To find out what stories have they incorporated, we at Melon are now revealing information so you can enjoy the “Run Away” MV 120%.

On December 1st, the band Royal Pirates came back with their third EP album [3.3]. This album is meant to represent the band’s re-birth. While preparing for the third album, each member has gone through a transcendence, overcoming their own fears and difficulties to create a more mature and meaningful album in [3.3]. Included in the making of this album as well, is top producer in not only Korea, but America and China as well- group SOLID’s member Jae Chong. Together with the Royal Pirates members he made a charming album with six songs full of various genres.

#EXSY –> Flower & Marionette
The flower cradled in his hands is his mother’s favorite Cosmos flower. With the flower as sacrifice, it holds the meaning of his love for his mother. While looking forward and running towards his own dreams, his mother was diagnosed with a critical illness that would effect her not only physically but mentally. Sooyoon was suddenly faced with the fear that he would lose his once healthy mother. Over the wind of years the petals blow away, and as time continues to flow his mother becomes weaker and loses her youth… However, even despite the harsh wind and rain he protects his precious and beautiful mother’s love.
While on his way to chase the music he wanted to make, he felt as if he became a marionette being forced to sway to the wishes of others and make music not like what he sought. He had to face the reality that he must compromise to the opinions of others, but despite that continued to resist and face failure, knowing that his passion and longing for music could not be stopped by anyone… In the end his journey became not a fight with others, but a spectacular fight to win over his own self.
#Moon Kim –> Faded Photos, White Rose, Bass Guitar & Lip Shaped Monitor
The faded photographs show the picture of Moon and his older brother (Moonchan) when they were young. His brother was Moon’s closest friend and a mentor-like presence to him. But now it’s time to let him go. The older brother who stood strong as RP’s bassist is no longer with us.
Placing a white rose upon the bass guitar his brother used to play holds the meaning of eternal love and respect. Moonchan left his “dreams and hope” for RP to inherit. Through RP’s music they are now able to convey many words they wanted to but could never say before, and makes it so that Moon’s brother may once again appear in his thoughts. This scene is the realization that his brother’s dream lives on in his own.
After living in difficult times not being able to use his own voice, now he can throw away that voice of pretense and hypocrisy and sing with sincerity. This is a love song can break through pitch darkness.
#James Lee –> Broken Bass Guitar & Flaming Shield
The old and rigid shield represents the fear James had inside of him. He left his family and home to adapt to a new environment where everything was unfamiliar, and this resulted in a number of doubts and fears. One day he became the victim of an unpredictable misfortune that caused a severe injury to his left wrist. After this life-altering accident, all the anguish and fear James held inside himself finally reaches its peak.

#Last Scene
In the second half of the MV you can see that they are forced to withstand a turbulent snow-like storm, however they are able to overcome this difficulty and adversity to safely have their stories unfold. These are things that befall not just everyone, yet they keep believing in themselves, never giving up so that they are able to win their fight. It is yet another reflection of hope, of which the video has many representations.
The music video “Run Away” shows us a poetic telling of their individual stories, and shows how much they have grown. They will no longer be caught up in the past, but be re-born to make a new future. The real-life winter they are facing now is merely a convenient gateway to the upcoming spring.

<Perspective>
Sooyoon looked so cool filming this scene that I almost screamed. I was wondering if this was the same Sooyoon that I see everyday. Sooyoon in person is also cool, but the Sooyoon in the monitor looked like God’s greatest masterpiece. Last year Sooyoon’s mother was in critical condition, so he was going through a hard time. It was a scene where Sooyoon, who waited anxiously in the hospital room in order to look after the mother who cannot be replaced with anyone, was expressing his love to his mother. He must’ve looked extra cool that day because of this ^^ It must’ve been tiring with all the musical activities, but because he quietly looked after his mother day and night, I heard that she is doing much better nowadays. Please stay healthy and live a long, long life Mother~
<Focus>
I secretly took a picture after noticing Moon Kim concentrating on something before performing. Moon who is always relaxed has the opposite disposition as me, so we clash a lot, but I like and respect Moon more than anyone. The one of a kind magical voice and the uniqueness that you can’t follow even if you wanted to is really~!! Charming. In a band there are several instruments that come together to create an awesome sound, but the most important instrument is the vocals.
You can express different emotions by controlling an instrument, but would it be as good/delicate/elaborate as a person’s voice? Up until now, no matter how difficult it is or how angry he gets, Moon never expresses his emotions. He’s always constant/unchanging. Maybe because of that his singing was ordinary - whether singing a happy song or a sad song, by comparison it was similar… but now I wish he would become Moon that focuses on his emotions and cries when he’s having a hard time and laughs wholeheartedly when he’s happy. Now there’s a reliable RP that trusts and relies on each another by your side~~!!!!
<Chained>
Here’s the scene of the most awesome drummer in the world, Sooyoon’s wrists tied up with chains. His dynamic performance while being chained couldn’t be fully captured when trying to film with a camera. The atmosphere at the site was no joke. It’s such a shame that the heat and attractive side of Sooyoon couldn’t be completely captured on camera. The drums are the life of a band, but for always silently matching our sound, I’m thankful and proud Sooyoon~~!!!
<Blur>
As everyone probably knows, I’m a bassist. I want to show the best performance I can to the team that helped me switch to E-rock while I was in the hospital..,but I’d never done a keyboard performance before so I was in a bit of a sticky situation. But in order to join us, Enik-hyung pushed back his busy schedule and flew all the way to Korea from the US! Hyung is truly a skilled producer, DJ, vocalist, etc. there’s nothing he can’t do.
Through Enik-hyung, I learned a lot in a short time and in the end he helped me to be able to perform on keyboard. He’s only briefly in the MV, but for the time being, you’ll be able to see him in broadcasts and activities with us!! Enik-hyung’s powerful performance and passion for music is truly amazing. I called this photo ‘Blur’ because, as you can tell from the hairstyle, the photo’s taken during a powerful performance so it’s shaky. That’s why I called it ‘Blur’.
<Plugged In>
This scene is one where Moon Kim is singing in front of a monitor. While Moon is singing, there’s a monitor in front of his lips. The story is that it’s like it’s not Moon’s voice, but that it seems like he’s singing with someone else’s voice. It’s expressing the desire to convey the music he wants with his own voice. It’s one of my top 3 favourite scenes of the MV. The photo title is 'plugged in’ b/c there’s another cable plugged in, in front of the monitor that Moon Kim breaks. That’s why I called it 'Plugged In’.
<Reflection>
This scene is my story!!! This is from the scene where I break the bass and drive it into the shield. There’s a scene in the MV where I break the bass and it symbolizes last summer’s accident where I injured my wrist. I like this picture because you can see the reflection of the bass on the shield. It looks like it’s a projection of me. Cool right? The rough and worn shield is like my past self and the broken wrist of the guitar portrays how I can’t play the guitar anymore because of my injured wrist.
If you look at the back, the shield is burning and now I can say that I’ve burned my pain, scars, and my fearful past self. Difficulties that can’t be expressed with words came to us with situations that looked like it would knock us down, but because we were together, we were able to overcome them. Because of all the members of the company who trusted me when I first came to Korea and didn’t know anything and was wandering and bumping into things here and there, my friends, and our family who never missed a day and worried and prayed for us were by my side, I was able to stand up again so I am truly grateful. And I love you.
