[Transcripts | LOTC] 140618: Last Exit to Brooklyn

I didn’t type out all the English… but I don’t think that’ll be too much of a problem… -A

00:05 Last week on LotC in New York

00:07 With fluttering hearts the New York Fam got on a plane to New York

00:14 Briefly sight-seeing around the glamorous Manhattan

00:17 These aren’t houses;

00:19 After arriving at the house they would be staying at in New York

00:21 they were stunned by many things.

00:25 On the first night they had to make their own money

00:28 Would they be able to cope with the difficult New York lie?

00:30 NY Fam’s alternate life

00:32 Starts now!

00:35 Episode 2 - Last Exit to Brooklyn

00:40 (The first night in Brooklyn, New York gets deeper)

00:44 (The oppas are deep asleep in their sleeping bags)

00:48 (But Jinhee’s gone?!)

00:51 (At this time of night, there’s a woman standing alone in front of the window)

00:59 (Jinhee is playing around as a ghost?!?!)

1:02 (After taking a shower while everyone else was sleeping)

1:05 (Making use of a face mask and hair dryer)

1:07 This is the first time in my life I’ve been to America…

- I never thought I’d be squatting while drying my hair ;

1:13 (She may have  given up her image… but she can’t giving up drying)

1:21 I thought I would be able to see the night view by now

1:26 (Instead of the New York night scene, she chooses a horror story)

1:30 (Someone please dry my hair… The Brooklyn Ghost)

1:39 Cool~

1:45 The Manhattan night view you’ve been dreaming of..

-is across the river.

1:50 The first night in New York

-is spent sleeping on the bare floor but

1:57 even here in Brooklyn, without fail, the sun rises

2:02 and without fail, a new day begins in the city.

2:07 Oh? But wait…

2:09 (It’s one person less!)

2:12 (No matter where, the fixed cameras can’t catch sight of one person)

2:18 (Quietly putting on clothes by himself…Kyungho?)

2:21 (He can’t possibly be planning on going around by himself the whole day?)

2:27 (It’s still the early morning)

2:30 :surprise: Hyung, what are you doing?

2:32 (Taking the vigilantly standing crew by surprise)

2:35 (After looking around outside for a minute)

2:38 (He suddenly leaves!)

2:42 (The crew hurries to follow)

2:44 (Where are you going?!)

2:47 What time is it?

- :excited: It’s six right now!

2:51 I’ll be back~

- (He says… and starts running!)

2:56 In the mornings, I just love to run. // (Jogging mania)

- Releasing some sweat, I feel this is something I can do for myself in the mornings.

3:05 :Even in Seoul ~10km Everyday: From Seongsu Bridge, crossing Banpo Bridge, and going back home is about an hour and twenty minutes?

3:14 (A Seoul jogging habit… that he diligently maintains in New York!)

3:19 It’s really close!

Central Park is closer than I thought!

3:25 (We’re going to run to Central Park…? ;;)

3:28 (Fortunately today we’re only running to the closer park in the area) // There’s a park nearby… I dont think it’ll take long [to get there]

3:32 (Thanks to you… the crew member in charge also runs)

3:39 (The brilliant morning sun shines)

3:43 (The New York Morning greets you before anyone else)

3:47 (The city has changed but today I will still run)

3:51 (Just like in the movies)

3:54 (For me to become a New Yorker)

3:57 (Let’s savor the city!)

4:01 Savor… savor… that’s right savor!

4:08 Oh; They’re all food places!

4:10 (Different from the movies, the hungry reality)

4:12 Oh my.. That must be a fruit stand;!

4:16 (Spread out everywhere is the torture of food)

4:18 Fruit%#&^… fruit~ ;;

4:21 (To the Kyungho right now this is fruit in a picture)

4:25 We’re here~~

4:28 (Running for about 20 minutes, arriving at the destined park) // This is McCarren Park.

4:31 (New Yorkers are exercising on the well made track)

4:39 (Despite the thin frame, his fitness is great!)

4:42 (Non-stop running for about an hour!)

4:46 (Someday, definitely, Central Park!!)

4:49 (At the New York Family house….)

4:52 (Two men came up to the roof in the early morning)

4:56 It’s great~ If you look this way, the red sun.

4:59 (The Brooklyn morning sky is painted red)

5:02 We are now looking out at Manhattan

- This is our first look at Manhattan’s morning

5:11 Far away there are tremendous cities but…

- right in front of us are factories;;

5:19 Oh! It’s so cold! // (Not only that, but it’s super cold)

5:22 (Jinhee also rose to go wash her face but)

5:27 (after turning on the water)

5:33 Ah! It’s cold!

5:35 (Shocked by the ice-cold water)

5:37 It’s been a while since I turned it on but why is it still so cold?

5:40 (The hot water that came out last night isn’t coming any more)

5:43 Oh, whatever!

- I’ll just have to wash quickly and go

5:48 (SHUDDER)

5:54 Not even warm water comes out well in America ;

5:58 (Cleansing with clenched teeth)

6:01 It doesn’t make any sense that there wouldn’t be any hot water in New York! // (The difference between cold and hot water)

- It’s 2014!

- It’s okay if I don’t eat, but I’d like it if there was at least some hot water!

6:10 You come straight to your senses!

6:12 (Thanks to that my pores have shrunk…) // You’re saying that there’s not even hot water in this day and age?

6:17 (The Reason Why There’s No Hot Water - On old buildings there is a water tank on the roof with a water heater, but if the demand is high at the same time, there are instances the hot water doesn’t come out.)

6:21 (After jogging, Kyungho comes back to clean up) // Here another victim has arrived.

6:26 (After installing the self-cam preparing a shower)

6:30 (Anticipating hot water, he turns on the faucet…)

6:34 Wow, this cold water is too much

6:36 (A corporate hot-shot would be like this~)

6:43 (Taking a deep breath… shower ON!)

6:51 (This.. This is no joke!)

6:53 (Welcoming the whole body with Cold Shower)

7:03 (Rubbing himself down with cold water, and his accompanying shrieks)

7:07 Done!

7:12 I’ve finished. // (Cold Water Commotion -The END-)

7:17 (Morning in Brooklyn- sure is something)

7:22 (Before officially starting the day)

7:25 (Jinhee does her makeup)

7:26 :A woman’s Secret: This is our space

7:29 (Under the clothesline haphazardly made- a small vanity)

7:35 (After the cold rinse, calming the surprised skin)

7:38 (With no mirror, she uses the camera monitor)

7:42 Skin~ Become moistened~

7:48 Our Jinhee… I think we can make a vanity for her

7:52 (Big Oppa looking out for the youngest sister)

7:55 (Should be move that mirror(?)?)

7:57 (While searching the house yesterday they found this mirror) // What’s this? Can we use it?

8:02 (The Oppas get to work for their little sister)

8:06 (What are they doing?)

8:11 (With the strength of five people!)

8:14 We’re making a vanity for you~

- For me?

8:17 (Putting it in front of the window with the threat of sunburn)

8:19 (NY Fam House is in the middle of its third renovation)

8:23 (A mirror appeared~)

8:27 (Jinhee’s mini vanity and-) // CH: This is a chair~ // (even providing mat cushions)

8:33 (A perfect beauty room)

8:36 You can see everything kk

8:39 From here.. about 16 people can do their make-up in front of this!

8:43 (Full body mirror complete!)

8:54 Our daughter is even ready for marriage now~

8:56 (Like filming for a family CF)

8:58 (Father also takes care of his wrinkles at his daughter’s vanity)

9:01 Please live for a long time!

9:03 (Giving the smaller oppa’s hair some strength)

9:06 (Our family is Happy~ Happy~)

9:09 (What do we need now?)

9:12 If we write something, we’ll need something to do it with

9:15 Write on the mirror!

9:19 (the flexible mirror can even be used as a memo pad)

9:22 (What are the things they need the most?)

9:25 Butane gas!

9:28 (Chunhee brought a burner but there’s no gas)

9:33 Transformers!

9:35 (The low voltage decreases the product’s efficacy)

9:37 Sponges!

9:39 Cups!

9:40 Table!

9:42 (The many necessities for living)

9:44 (Would they be able to find them all today?)

9:50 I’m hungry ;;

9:51 (Little by little it’s become a house)

9:54 (The problem with food is the most urgent!!) //No matter what it is, the thing NY Fam needs the most right now is food!

9:58 Today’s breakfast is rice cakes and the sides Jinhee’s mothermade to stave off hunger

10:04 The food that they brought from Korea is slowly lessening

10:06 (In order to find work, they have to hit the streets!) // NY Fam, I think it’s time to make some money!

10:12 (Earnest search for work starts)

10:16 (Brooklyn’s refreshing morning air)

10:20 (They want to find residential areas but)

10:23 (NY Fam House > Dongsaeng Line / Hyungnim Line)

10:25 (The two lines divide and set off)

10:33 It’s a little bleak isn’t it~

10:35 (The Hyungs get on track by following the smell of people)

10:39 I think it’d be better to go onto a bigger road

10:43 What’s around here? Can you search from our position?

10:47 You can search this neighborhood? // (Of Course, what type of world is it these days…)

- Oh really?

10:49 (20th Century - Analog Person vs. 21st Century - Digital Person)

10:54 (Necessities in today’s world - Smartphone and GPS)

10:56 (Replacing the past’s maps with new assistance)

10:58 Manhattan Avenue is this way!

11:01 (In place of the real Manhattan)

11:04 (they’ve arrived at Brooklyn’s “Manhattan Ave.”)

11:07 (Up until now, the busiest looking street)

11:09 Let’s try going in here!

11:11 (Approaching a supermarket-like store)

11:14 Let’s see if they sell anything like gas…

11:18 (They start searching from number 1 of this morning’s list, butane gas)

11:20 Ya.. what is “butane gas” in English?

11:23 (Immediately running into the language barrier)

11:25 We can just call it “camping gas”

11:28 (Hyung, just ask)

11:31 (CH said it confidently but asks SS to ask) // (If there’s any gas.. ;;)

11:33 (AT A LOSS)

11:39 Nice to meet you~

11:41 Do you have, uh… camp.. camp gas?

11:45 Camping gas?

11:47 (What did he say?)

11:49 (A commonly occurring situation of language shift)

11:52 Butane…gas

11:54 (No way he can understand if you say “butane gas”?)

11:56 (These hyungs think butane is friends with briquets)

11:58 (Even if they aren’t good at English)

12:01 (It’s frustrating since they don’t know what it’s called in America)

12:05 (Their first encounter ends in a hang up about language)

12:09 The feel’s totally different ;

12:12 (Extremely different conditions to their excursion  than people looking favorably )

12:15 (SS can’t grasp the feel of things)

12:17 (Even so they unyieldingly restart their search for butne gas)

12:21 (Revealing an upbeat New York Kid)

12:25 What’s your name?

12:26 Max!

12:27 Max! My name is.. Kevin!

12:31 Nice to meet you Kevin!

12:32 Nice to meet you too! // (An amiable kid-gentleman)

12:35 (After a brief and bold sharing of names… he leaves in a hurry)

12:40 (But before he goes he has to ask for butane gas…)

12:42 Haa~ I’m no good with English;

12:48 (SS’s Hidden Card comes out from within his bag)

12:51 (For the first time in his life, a bought an English Conversation Book)

12:54 (Is there “butane gas” in here…)

12:56 (He flips through it… but there’s no such expression inside)

13:00 (How common would coming to a foreign country looking for gas be…)

13:03 There are so many things in here, but “gas” isn’t one of them

13:06 (In times like these it’s expected to run into a wall)

13:12 Gas please~

13:13 Camping gas

13:18 (“Gas”, “Ggas” no matter how you put it, it’s the same)

13:21 You know… Blue Star? [Cooking Range]

13:23 (He used all the konglish he knew but… FAIL!)

13:29 (Amongst all the calm stores…)

13:31 (Looking for butane gas.. but there isn’t any)

13:35 (So, they endlessly wander on the streets)

13:39 What’s this?

13:40 Oh! Hyung!

13:42 (Revealing a trashed chair!)

13:46 (Another item they have to find) // If it’s like this, we can just take it can’t we?

13:50 This is totally an gain-item then!

13:52 (Despite that it is a high backed chair missing an arm rest) // Even though it’s missing some pieces, what does it matter?

13:57 Since I have scoliosis, I sit off to the side anyway

14:00 (It’s not just a chair but a chairman’s chair!)

14:04 Hyung! Where should we go? // (Where shall I deliver Chairman Kevin)

14:07 No, no, no.. If you do that, someone can get hurt.

14:09 (They’ve got thrown away furniture, received money, they’ve even collection but)

14:11 (NY Fam’s unexpected windfall) // Let’s lift it and go. //  We’re taking it and putting it at home?

14:13 It’s heavy, isn’t it?

14:16 (pit-ter pat-ter~!)

14:17 Is it heavy or..?

14:19 It must have been rained on;

14:21 (You may be wet and you may be junk) // It must have been, if it wa thrown away…

14: 23 (But in our house you are precious) // NY Fam’s first furniture! An Arm chair!

14:30 Even though it’s heavy, he runs excitedly.

14:33 Our first!

14:36 It’s good, right?

14:37 (For some reason today, the feel is good~)

14:38 Scott must be really proud~

14:40 Meanwhile, what are the dongsaengs doing?

14:45 (On the opposite side from the hyungs, the dongsaengs are shopping for a job) // It has to be a place that will accept all three of us~

14:48 It’d be great if that could happen.

14:50 (They approach a street that looks like it has many places one can work) // There must be something here

14:53 There are even flower shops here!

14:56 (Among the various shops this one catches the eye)

14:59 A pizza shop!

15:01 I want to work here!

15:03 Putting work aside, I want to eat!

15:05 (They start their first job search in the restaurant!)

15:06 Let’s go in! //  Jinhee went in first!

15:12 Are you guys…hiring, by any chance?

No, the boss is not here…

The boss is not here right now? When?  // Yea, every day about 11:30.

(There’s no one present to make an immediate decision)

15:22 (Chancing to ask if there would be any work for them)

15:25 (As expected, the answer can’t be known)

15:28 (Their first job is to wait for the right time to meet the boss)

15:31 My name is Moon, and when your boss comes, tell him Moon, Emma, and Jack came here looking for work. You can put in a good word for us.

15:39 Thank you very much. // See you soon! // (Before that, it’s fortunate that Moon is there to speak for them)

14:53 Hair styling? // (This time they take on a Hair Shop )

15:45 (Today they enter not as customers but as job seekers)

15:50 (As expected, Moon approaches naturally)

15:54 We can wash their hair…for you guys…

15:56 No, no. We don’t need nobody. We need a beautician and not anyone for cleaning…

16:01 None you you have worked in a shop before have you?

16:03 (They’ve all always been on the receiving end…)

16:04 (No matter how they promote themselves)

16:08 (It’s not that easy to get a job)

16:13 Try someplace else, I mean…

- I don’t know where, but not here.

16:20 (She’s a friendly director but still, it’s a fail)

16:25 (She was hard to convince…)

16:28 (This time they try a fast-food joint)

16:30 There’s no one inside! // (It should be okay, even if we don’t have special skills, right?)

16:35 Hi.

- Are you guys hiring here?

- We’re not looking for anyone. Maybe in a month or so.

- In a month…

- Are you guys college kids? High school kids?

16:44 I am Korean movie star!

- He is a movie star. I am a singer, and she’s an actress…

- Oh wonderful! Nice to meet you guys.

- Stop by in a couple of weeks from now and see what’s happening in the business, because right now I’m fully staffed for the business I have.

16:57 (This time they’ve been stumped by the timing)

(No boss, no skills, and now it’s not the right time)

17:04 (They talked a lot but having to meet under the right conditions, they couldn’t get a job)

17:07 (If it were easy from the start it wouldn’t be a challenge!)

17:13 I understand that you guys are trying hard, but…

17:15 (The boss that wants to help out of NY Fam’s hard work)

- Try maybe the supermarket!

17:20 (She recommends a supermarket that regularly looks for workers )

17:23 Good luck with the business, ma'am. Thank you very much. // Thank you~

17:26 (It certainly isn’t easy)

17:30 (:last resort: They found the supermarket!)

17:33 It’s pretty big!

17:35 (Revealing a large market!) // Should we go in?

17:37 (If it’s of this scale… it seems like there would be some work)

17:42 Oh~ Bread~

17:44 (As soon as they enter, they are tempted by food)

17:47 39 cents? // That’s not bad. // (One bread is 39 cents [400 won])

17:50 (If they could make one dollar it’d be enough to eat two and have some leftover!

17:52 After only eating rice cakes I think  this would be tasty

17:55 (They all look better than rice cakes, these… unattainable foods;)

18:03 (Potatoes are good to eat when you’re hungry)

18:07 We can put them in the steamer…

18:09 Oh, but the steamer is too weak;

18:11 (Even the dongsaeng line encounters the need for butane gas)

18:17 What is “butane gas” in English?

18:19 Butane gas

18:24 (So the problem the hyungs were facing was one of pronunciation k k)

18:29 Excuse me, do you guys sell butane gas? For a portable burner.

18:34 :??: !@#$%^&* // (Um? That’s not English?)

18:38 :Again, in English: No, not in this store. Anything else?

18:40 Are you guys hiring, by any chance?

Who’s looking for a job?

Any of us three.

Let me ask them.

18:50 (Really?)

18:52 She’s going to ask about jobs for us!

18:54 (Things were a little confusing, but somehow it’s looking hopeful)

18:57 (Manager arrives!)

19:05 (If you give us the chance, we’ll work very hard)

19:08 (Just a second~)

19:10 (The manager goes to call the boss)

19:14 (It looks like… we’ll be able to do it!!)

19:18 (Please… let it be…)

19:28 (Already acting as if they’ve got the job?)

19:33 This is like a Polish-American store.. and before Easter, people will shop a lot.

19:40 PO.LA.ND?!

19:45 Ah~ So that was Polish, before.

19:47 After looking, there were signs in Polish too.

19:53 The hamburger joint from before was also a Polish store.

19:56 (Polish flag) // But why does New York have so many Polish people?

19:59 (Greenpoint, “Little Poland” - The population of Greenpoint is 43% those who emigrated at the end of the 19th Century.)

20:08 (Like in our Koreatown, you can maintain your identity and gold various national events)

20:12 (Without our knowing, yet another community is living together here)

20:18 (We didn’t know of this truth)

20:20 When I get my first pay, I’ll buy you a present

20:22 Right, me too!

20:24 (Being like this in front of the chocolate…)

20:27 (The mamnerg’s message after having conversed with the boss)

20:34 (Aww; Not here either;;)

20:38 (As I thought, it wasn’t that easy)

20:41 Check some other supermarkets in the area

20:47 Thank you very much for asking

20:49 Have a good time in New York~

20:52 (From one emigrant to another, the thankful people show each other positivity)

20:57 (Once again, it’s a fail!)

21:02 (But since there was almost the possibility it’s even more bittersweet)

21:05 :positive interpretation: We’re not losing anything by trying..

21:08 …at least you did it cutely.

21:21 (But…)

21:15 it’s raining!

21:18 (Now it’s even raining on top of the cold ;;)

21:20 (The sky is crying for us)

21:23 Let’s try the flower shop!

21:26 (They went looking in all the shops they saw but)

No!

No!

Thanks, but No~

21:38 (every one was a failure)

21:41 If we can make even one dollar and hour…

21:44 (Even lowering the pay.. doesn’t cut it)

21:47 Talk about us with some dramatics!

21:49 You know I can’t speak English!

21:52 :He tries using dramatics: It’s just she’s really pretty, and if she works here I’m sure a lot of customers will come by…

21:56 I have no doubt!

21:59 Unfortunately not now~

22:02 (Even still it’s the same words they’ve heard endless times already - I’m sorry)

22:09 (When will we hear the words “OK”…)

22:13 (EX.HAUS.TED)

22:20 (The rain becomes thicker)

22:24 (Avoiding the rain under the awning)

22:28 (Do we really… give us like this…?)

22:34 (Just then a shop worker starts her work)

22:41 (It looks like she’s opening the shutter doors?)

22:43 Oh my~

22:46 (Swiftly showing off his strength!)

22:52 (We’re good at working~!)

22:55 (But this person is just a worker)

22:57 Where are you from?

Poland.

Poland! // (Yet another Polish person!!)

23:01 (Pol…what is Poland famous for?) // Pol… Yeah, I love.. yeah.

23:04 I love yogurt! Poland yogurt?!

23:06 Thank you~ (Yogurt is Bulgaria~)

23:08 (Just like that, the girl disappears.)

23:13 (Let’s still give it our best- it’ll all come out well…probably. ;)

23:22 (At the same time - The Hyung-line is…)

23:24 (After taking the chair back, he stops in front of the fruit stand - Chunhee)

23:28 (I want to eat fruit, not rice cake)

23:31 (Just then a face peeks out at him)

23:33 (Not from Poland, but an East-Asian lady?)

23:37 Are you Korean?

Yes

Oh, really! Hello~

23:39 (He met a Korean in the Polish neighborhood!)

23:41 (The store lady recognizes Chunhee) //  This is the flower-shop lady~!

23:45 (If that’s the case!)

23:49 By any chance… do you have butane gas?

Do we have butane gas, manager?

23:56 (Already pleased to hear his own language^^)

24:00 There’s no place that sells it, butane gas. // (Not here either!) // Where can I find it?

24:03 (Why don’t New Yorkers not use burners?) // If you go to the District 61 there should be some there…

24:06 How do I get to District 61?

24:07 Are you walking there? Or are you taking the subway?

24:10 I don’t have any money;

24:12 (If an entertainer doesn’t have money then why is he here…) // If you don’t have money how do you plan on living?

24:15 Is there work I can do here?

24:16 Work? There’s a lot!

24:20 (Doubting his ears) // Can I work here for a day?

24:23 (He edges closer with a glad heart) // Eh? // I can really work hard~

24:25 [GU.LP~]

24:28 What can you do…

I’m good at organizing… I can also makes shelves..

24:34 (EARNEST)

24:37 (CONSIDERING)

24:40 (So…?)

24:58 (But it’s not here)

25:00 (but at a different neighborhood about 15 minutes away) // If I start walking now…

25:03 (At a neighborhood across the river that looks quite far)

25:08 (In any case, he got a job!!)

25:12 (Why isn’t he coming?)

25:14 (In another place, SS calls with a worriedly but)

25:18 Hyung, I was going along! And at some delivery store!

They said if I helped… they would pay me!

25:28 Then we should do it together!!!

25:30 (Big Hyung is grasping at spoons)

25:32 Can only one person do that job?

25:34 Hyung, do you want to come too?

25:36 That’s right, we should go together! // (If two are doing it, then the pay is doubled!!)

25:39 (SS speaks and walks quickly) // Ok, ok, ok. I got it. Got it.

25:43 (You came!) // Where are we going?

(Listen!!)

26:02 (Where? Even the name is hard- Pulaski Bridge!)

26:07 (But… Is walking there only 15 minutes?)

26:13 (Don’t ask, just run!)

26:16 (Even the crew starts running freely)

26:23 But the job… where is it

26:27 (Just you wait!)

26:29 If we get there in time, we can work right? // Yeah!

26:31 (Then, faster!)

26:46 (I should have exercised before coming.. (:cries:))

26:49 (After crossing the bridge… and even the crosswalk…)

26:54 (It’s still far;)

26:57 (10:50am - First Step into Queens)

26:58 [SS:] What time is it? We’ve got ten minutes left.

27:18 (Finally arriving at the destination!!)

27:21 (They made it within time)

27:23 (Will this place… be their first place of work?)

27:31 This is my hyung. My older brother!

27:35 Oh, is he your real brother?

Oh, no h h h

27:39 Do you have job openings right now? // Yes, you should talk to that person..

27:42 (Employment is the manager’s jurisdiction)

27:54 (They make simple foods and then sell it)

27:59 I can cook!

28:02 Around lunchtime the customers come rushing in

28:06 What sort of shop is this, in terms of Korea?

28:09 To Korea this would be… one of convenience?

28:14 (Deli - Similar to Korea’s supermarkets, it carries various ingredients, coffee, and necessities)

28:18 (Selling simple foods like sandwiches, salads, etc.; it is an eatery of convenience)

28:23 (I have to make a good impression)

28:25 Excuse me!

28:28 I can… I can do things like this

28:31 (A Solitary 40 Year Old’s Skilled Hands)

28:35 (Even if you only use us during busy times, that’s fine) // Can we help you when you’re busiest?

28:37 (How lovely, it’s lunch time right now~!)

28:42 (They jump at the prospect of a job) // We really need a job right now,

28:45 (The sincere persuasion of novice workers) // to make money… The work you were talking about before…

28:48 (No matter what it is, please ask us) // … are all things we can do…

28:50 (They came running to to point of death.. will this be their fortune..?!) // These two who suddenly came knocking.. will this be their first place of employment in New York?

28:57 At around 11:30 is the time we go out to deliver lunch

29:08 When he gave is the job… (First Job) …I was overjoyed!

29:14 Looking for a job isn’t an easy thing to do.

- Even this is thanks to the fact that we coincidentally met some Koreans…

(The work that most transfer students get)

- … We ran about 4km just to get this job.

29:22 I really felt that “(In the future) Getting a job is really not an easy thing ”

29:26 (11a-2p - Part-Time Starts)

29:29 (SS’s task is dishwashing)

29:33 (CH’s is work in the refrigerator)

29:52 (Inside temp 1.6°C)

29:56 (Shiver)

29:59 This is an ice(?) kingdom

31:58 :Sneakily:

32:02 :By the way: What’s this here for?

32:05 (Even so, adhering to strict hierarchy k k)

32:07 This must be a residential area

32:11 (After failing to find work, Dongsaeng-line heads towards the residentials)

32:14 (A newsstand with a job magazine)

32:18 (Maybe here. some information!)

32:20 :Since this is residentials: Would babysitting come out?

51:19 (Even acquiring used good to use as furniture)

51:22 (They’ve collected a lot)

51:25 (Anyway.. it’s an impressive collection)

51:28 (At the crosswalk they encounter)

51:30 (A housewife’s shopping cart)

51:32 We… it’d be great if we were also carrying food around [instead of trash];

51:36 (It’s not food but)

51:37 (All of this is money~!)

51:40 (With that anticipation in mind)

51:42 (They put each item in but)

51:46 (clink clink) (CLUNK!)

51:49 ? It doesn’t work

51:50 (Clank x2)

51:52 Ah~ it’ doesn’t work ; ;

51:55 (Strangely the machine keeps spitting them out)

52:00 It seems we picked up and brought total [useless] trash!

52:03 (Collapse)

52:06 (We worked so hard to collect and bring… TRASH;)

52:10 (Even the rain suddenly starts falling)

52:12 (Not giving up, they keep inputting items…)

52:15 Oh! // Did it work?

52:17 One of them did, one!

52:18 What type was it? // (They tried about 20… and one was successful)

52:22 This one works!!

52:24 (Yet another success on this side!)

52:28 (Just what… is the basis for what works and what doesn’t?)

52:36 (Recycling Refund System - Only bottles with ‘NY Refund’ pasted will show you the retail price, those without will be returned)

52:40 (Not knowing this they keep fighting with the machine)

52:43 (All of those won’t work~)

52:45 (A grandfather to the side couldn’t stand watching anymore and let them know)

52:49 (Whatever it is, you have to know the reason for going through such trouble)

52:54 (In the end they put everything in the trash bin)

52:59 It’s 30 cents?

53:00 (Even still, they got 30 cents for their bottles!)

53:05 (CH’s 5c + SS’s 10c - Adding the amount from just before)

53:08 (A total of 45 cents in coupons)

53:13 If we have any cans or things we can exchange it for these…

53:17 (In either case, this new system they found is another way of income)

53:21 (It’s a rather small amount of money but)

53:26 (It gets you thinking about the environment [as a precious experience])

53:29 (No matter how small the work)

53:32 (It carries it’s own meaning)

53:36 (Brooklyn Living - Second Day’s Dinner)

53:42 (Not preparing for dinner)

53:44 (The NY Fam seems to be in an unbothered state)

53:48 (What’s the problem?)

53:51 (There’s still food left over)

53:53 (You made some money)

53:55 (But there’s one thing they couldn’t find!)

54:03 (There’s no “fire” to cook with!!)

54:07 Why do you think having gas is the only way to make a fire?

54:10 (Letting on the countless experiences of the jungle)

54:13 (There’s no need to be persistent on using modern technology!)

54:17 It doesn’t matter if you make a small fire with wood in the city?

54:21 (NY Environmental Protection Agency  - Outdoor Lighting Regulations)

54:26 (A ray of light has fallen upon NY Fam!)

54:29 (Let’s make a small furnace!)

54:32 Of course, safety is the basics.

54:35 (After finding all the needed materials, NY Fam heads to the roof)

54:38 Ya~

- Oh~

- Wow~

54:43 (Surprisingly beautiful - New York night scene)

54:51 We just came from there, earlier!

54:53 (That’s right, way over the~re!)

54:55 (You can see the hyung’s workplace far away)

54:59 (It’s really far~)

55:02 (For a moment forgetting their fatigue)

55:05 (and enjoying the night to their hearts’ content)

55:08 (That’s right, New York sure is… Romantic)

55:13 We should make the fire!

55:15 (The youngest’s comment whips them all back to reality)

55:18 (Secretary Baek and Her Servants)

55:22 (With a tin can off the streets - 1. Make holes for the oxygen to go through)

55:26 (With planks worth 1 cent each - 2. Go for the building manager )

55:30 (Place the broken pieces in the furnace - 3. Dry firewood makes fire power UP!)

55:38 (BURNING)

55:40 If the fire is this strong I should make Chinese food to eat!

55:44 Should we bake some chicken breast?

55:47 (I want to eat it)

55:50 I didn’t think we would be burning firewood in New York…

55:55 (Just then Scott’s scanner starts operating!)

55:59 (That’s right! We need that!)

56:02 (Suddenly starting to look for something downstairs)

56:04 (Where did I see it~?)

56:12 (The refrigerator shelf that he saw yesterday?!)

56:15 (He places it straight - on top of the fire~)

56:17 (He made a cool barbeque!)

56:20 (But… the fire is too strong;)

56:25 (FI~RE)

56:27 (What to do - about this)

56:30 (Placing firewood down as a pedestal)

56:32 (Wobble)

56:36 (His strong suit is acting - thermal regulation, fail!)

56:44 (That’s right! That!)

56:47 (Crunch)

(Whack)

(Knock)

(Split)

56:55 (A man who makes magic with one scan)

56:59 (After raising the pedestal)

57:01 (Perfect) (Mini furnace!)

57:05 (Scott hyung, you’re the best!)

57:07 (This is nothing k k)

57:09 (Now all they have to do is decide on the menu)

57:11 Should we eat almonds?

57:12 Let’s bake some garaetteok to eat!

57:15 (AGAIN???)

57:17 (We ate it yesterday

- We ate it at breakfast today

- We ate it at lunch, too)

57:23 I mean, we even made a fire, but we’re eating garaetteok again?!

- No, we can eat ramen, or rice….

57:28 (Garaetteok over here)

57:32 (Garaetteok over there)

57:36 (Garaetteok became Law of New York’s consistency)

57:40 New York is Garaetteok

57:45 (In the end garaetteok mania won over and all of them went in)

57:53 Chicken breast~~

57:55 (A resident’s determination)

57:58 (Angry sentiments towards the garaetteok dictatorship)

58:02 (Please~^^)

58:05 (Not only that, the promised garaetteok…)

58:08 (All of them got baked…)

58:11 Ya, try eating this as if it were galbi!

58:14 (This is as it was called - Garaetteok Galbi)

58:18 (About to faint because of the garaetteok)

58:23 (In the end…)

58:25 (:for the maknae: They consume Moon’s emergency ramen)

58:29 (After some consideration, they add some chicken breast)

58:34 Ah~ It’ll be good!

58:36 (Thank you, oppas)

58:39 (The ramen dancing over the wood fire)

58:43 (The fire power is good so solids cook quickly)

58:47 (Meanwhile…)

58:48 (When will the rice be ready?)

58:51 (He moves the rice pot to over the big fire)

58:55 (If this rice fails it’ll be a significant blow to their livelihood)

58:59 (Now we don’t have any rice left ;;)

59:02 Hand me a spoon

59:03 (With an uneasy heart he plans on eating some)

59:14 Is it done already?

59:15 (The rice) (is done…?)

59:19 (Something seems amiss…)

59:22 (pew pew pew pew pew)

59:27 (Rice is falling from )

59:31 At least a little? // (Nope;)

59:33 (The rice isn’t raw or cooked at all..)

59:38 (The ramen will have to stave his hunger)

59:40 We’ll eat well~

59:44 (The bowls are also something recycled)

59:49 (slurp)

59:52 (This time needs no words)

59:55 (Today we really cure our hunger)

1:00:03 Ah.. It’s really good.

1:00:05 I think this is the tastiest ramen out of all the ramen I’ve ever had!

1:00:08 (On a day like today)

1:00:09 (Anything you eat is the best)

1:00:14 (The noodles disappear in the blink of an eye)

1:00:18 (The rice… will it come out well?)

1:00:22 (Big Hyung thinks of an idea)

1:00:27 (Let’s make porridge with rice and the remaining soup!)

1:00:32 (Kevin’s Cooking Class - Second Episode)

1:00:36 (After adding chicken breast to and eating the ramen)

1:00:39 (With the remaining soup, add underdone rice and let stew)

1:00:43 (Let it boil down, not letting up on the stirring)

1:00:47 (I can’t believe I even made it - Ramen Porridge with unbelievable visuals will be made)

1:00:51 (Just looking - Cooking that makes you salivate)

1:00:54 (The name Moon will give it is?)

1:00:56 Brooklyn…. Job (?) Risotto!

1:00:58 Job Risotto?

1:01:03 (‘Job Risotto’ holds a lot of meanings)

1:01:08 (All are in the midst of anticipation)

1:01:10 (Main Dish - Brooklyn Job Risotto, Dining start)

1:01:14 (The one who has been waiting for this moment, Jinhee starts with a bite)

1:01:33 (A risotto like you… why did you only appear now…)

1:01:39 (And, this person here…)

1:01:42 (Is feeling it with his whole body)

1:01:46 (Without any words)

1:01:49 (Reminded only by the chewing)

1:01:54 This is an amazing flavour

1:01:56 (So wonderful a flavour he’s close to tears) // Are you about to cry, right now?

- No, it’s because it’s spicy…

1:01:59 Ahu~ It’s really tasty~~

1:02:03 Doesn’t this have a shine?

1:02:05 If you look closely the chicken breast in there almost looks like crab

1:02:11 (Reverently licking his lips)

1:02:13 (The Eldest Hyung Cook also takes a bite)

1:02:16 (The Namer also takes a bite)

1:02:20 It’s tasty~

1:02:25 (The feel is just right~)

1:02:27 (Scanner Scott’s evaluation is?)

1:02:36 Ah. It’s hot;;

1:02:38 (Because of his greed his mouth suffers)

1:02:41 If we want to make this again… we have to do it here.

1:02:46 (The scent of smoke makes only one under the sky - Brooklyn Job Risotto)

1:02:50 (This is the first real meal they’ve had after coming to New York)

1:02:53 (They eat until the very last grain)

1:02:57 (With one word of encouragement for the family that’s sweat all day)

1:03:02 Please turn on some club music for us

1:03:04 (Fry-pan DJing)

1:03:06 (The shaking rooftop lounge)

1:03:17 I forgot for a bit, again;;

1:03:19 (Our appetites were realized -thanks to Brooklyn Job Risotto)

1:03:27 (The rooftop club has more taste than any other club out there)

1:03:31 (And so the second night in New York got deeper…)

1:03:37 (and they became a little more familiar with the view from the roof)

1:03:43 It’s only been two days in New York, and so many things have happened in their days

1:03:47 Looking at the fire they made themselves…

1:03:50 The worries each NY Family member had in their heads… goes away.

1:03:56 Things I didn’t know were precious?

- Everything was always just there, there was nothing to be regretful about

1:04:02 That’s how it was but after coming here, all those things are very precious

1:04:07 I learned today that it’s possible to spend the night with a fire like this

1:04:11 :Adapting one step at a time: These are things we’re finding out as we go

1:04:13 If you move with the thought of what you need first and foremost in mind

1:04:19 I think a better tomorrow will come out of it

1:04:25 (They delivered garaetteok as promised to the deli owner they’re thankful to)

1:04:29 (Meeting Rolando-sunbae is yet another welcomed encounter)

1:04:35 I want to go, Manhattan!

1:04:37 We can get there, Manhattan!!

1:04:39 Together with the dongsaengs, for sure! We’ll go to that Manhattan.

- Right? // Yeah!

1:04:43 (The Hyungs will definitely… take you to Manhattan)

1:04:48 Unfamiliar people, unfamiliar city

- But after looking a little closer

- You realize that we are all the same people, working hard to live our lives

1:05:00 Whether it’s Seoul or New York… no matter where

1:05:08 Next week!

1:05:11 When do you think we’ll be fully adapted?

1:05:14 (Slowly getting used to survival in New York…?)

1:05:16 (YOU SURE?!)

1:05:18 (Are they really used to it?)

1:05:20 (Don’t think New York is easy)

1:05:22 (Is our ability only to this extent…)

1:05:26 (Appearing like a ray of light… the Cavalry Savior)

1:05:29 (Ailee in Laws of the City)

1:05:31 (NY Fam, You’re in for a shock!!)

1:05:34 I came as a helper

1:05:37 (English?) (Working?) (No Problem)

1:05:44 (The men of the house now get busy in the morning)

1:05:47 (Six member NY Fam! What does the future hold for them?)
