Interview | With RP
Q. Hello RP! Please say a simple greeting to the Naver Music Family and tell us what you’ve been up to.
A. Hello. We’re RP. After finishing up promotions for our [3.3] album, we took a break that really felt like we were away for years. Because of that break our thirst and passion for music has really started to burn. During the long and warm summer season all the members went to LA. We wanted to slake our thirst for new and innovative music, so it was a really energizing period of time. As the home of soul and rock- as well as it being our hometown- being in LA really brought us fresh inspiration and we returned after excitedly doing some work composing. Since we easily get immersed in the process, we think our rate of perfection has also improved. We plan to greet you all in the first half of 2017, so please anticipate our new approaches to music.
This past summer we were also selected to showcase at the Jeonju Ultimate Music Festival as well as the 2016 Seoul Music Fair. More recently, we were chosen as judges for Malaysia’s SuperStar K program called “Astro Star Quest 2016“ and are planning a year-end performance together, so we’ve been busy making preparations.
Q. What was it like being judges on Astro Star Quest 2016?
A. We participated as mentor and judges on ASQ. Rather than just one-sidedly judging the contestants, we have received inspiration from them as well. We are thankful for the new experience we got to have as judges and enjoyed the time we spent there. At the end of December we plan on going back once more to judge the finals and hold a congratulatory performance-cum-new year’s celebration. In Korea, we’re preparing great songs for 2017 that we expect to receive some great reactions for, so please anticipate them!
Q. You’ve been so busy but have still prepared the [Black Out 2016] Concert in Korea. Please tell us some more about it.
A. We’ve been really active in holding concerts and performances in Japan and Malaysia, and we wanted to hold a concert for our fans in Korea who have consistently supported us and waited for us. In March we had our second solo concert called “Beyond”; we wanted to show everyone what they’ve never seen at our concerts before, and do we decided the theme of our third solo concert would be “Black Out.”
“Black Out” has a few meanings, with two of them being: 1. blackout (total darkness; due to loss of power - unplugged) , 2. letting go of everything as if a film has been cut. On December 12, at 7p in Hongdae V Hall, we want everyone to let go and enjoy the powerful “Black Out.” Please come wondering what we mean by the name, and anticipate what we have in store. Experience it for yourself when you get here!
Q. How can one enjoy [Black Out 2016] at 200%?
A. We’re sure there have been many things that have happened to everyone during 2016, and that those events have people tired and worn out. For just one day, on December 17, we want people to free their minds and bodies and just enjoy themselves to their fullest. Just like the name “Black Out,” we want everyone to “black out” (erase) everything and enjoy spending this time together.
Q. Lastly, please tell us about any future planes and say goodbye to the Naver Music Family.
A. We plan on continuing to prepare for the end of the year performance as well as putting on the finishing touches to the new album we worked on while in LA. We expect to greet you all again as soon as possible, so please continue to anticipate us! For anyone who is just learning of us through Naver Music, we are preparing a performance beyond [Beyond], so please come out to see us on December 17 and prepare to have a great time together with us!
