[16.03.11] Royal Pirates’ Upcoming Solo Concert (3/12)... Their Musical Passion Surprises Even Bae Chulsoo

Three member rock band Royal Pirates’ recent visit to Bae Chulsoo’s Music Camp has left a deep impression on DJ Bae Chulsoo and listeners alike. The passion for music they displayed during airtime served only to amp up anticipation for their upcoming solo concert.

On the eleventh the Royal Pirates (Moon Kim, EXSY, James Lee) made an appearance on the Friday evening corner of MBC FM4U Bae Chulsoo’s Music Camp, “People and Music.” They shared their story of debuting in Korea after moving from America, and left a deep impression on listeners with live performances that gave a peek into their upcoming concert.

Although RP’s official debut was in 2013, the band began with Moon Kim and EXSY having been friends since middle school, with James joining in around their college times, and the three have performed together ever since. They revelaed, “One of the rock versions of a K-Pop song we uploaded (online) happened to make it back to Korea. Although we did want to release an album, we never thought that it would lead us to a debut.” Even DJ Bae Chulsoo was shocked at this news.

Formerly the band’s bassist, James even overcame a severe injury to the wrist he suffered in June that could have caused him to give up on music forever. He says, “I really looked into injured musicians. I could never give up on music, and I wanted to give hope to other people.” During this difficult time his members showed patience and waited for him through it, which gave James the willpower to transition to the keyboard. James showed his surprise at even being able to have come this far. Currently, RP has taken on American-born Taiwanese guest member (Enik Lin) as a guitarist and are promoting as four.

For their parting words RP relayed, “Although it’s been two years since we’ve debuted we haven’t even promoted properly for one year’s time. Making music was fun, and we’re happy just being a band.

Right now (music) has surpassed being fun. Rather than wanting to be very successful, we find it more meaningful to continue being together as three, and that’s become our current goal. We want to continue to show people that we are having fun, and we plan on doing this by having many more performances in the future.”

On this day RP performed live covers of popular pop songs such as The Killer’s “Somebody Told Me” and One Direction’s “Perfect”, along with their own “Dangerous”, “Let U Go”, “Run Away”, and “See What I See,” garnering a huge amount of interest from listeners.

Meanwhile RP will be having their second solo concert at 6p on the 12th, at Itaewon Hyundai Card’s Understage- 2016 RP Solo Concert “Beyond”. With the theme of “Beyond Your Imagination” this concert will cover the range from RP’s debut up until the present time, and all the things they were unable to show us in between. With news of special guest Yoon Dohyun also being in attendance at their concert, they continue to garner anticipation.

**During the show, Royal Pirates was trending (top 10) on Daum real-time charts!
