(Music and performance that’s matured to yet another level! Royal Pirates’ Concert <Beyond>)
Royal Pirates broke through the music industry with a new sound and an exceptional transformation as a band in December 2015 with the release of their album [3.3]! After receiving heartfelt love and zealous support for their matured sound, the Royal Pirates are preparing to make up for all the time they lost by holding their first solo concert <Beyond>. MelOn will take you through the band’s thoughts about the upcoming concert, and show you highlights from the concert they held in Japan in February.

Q. Hello Royal Pirates! Please give a simple greeting to the MelOn Music Family.
Hello, we are the Royal Pirates. We came to you in December with the release of our [3.3] album, and after three months we’re coming back to you with news of our concert! It’s really great to see you.
Q. Please tell us a little about your activities during [3.3] promotions.
After the release of [3.3] we’ve really been vigorously holding a lot of activities. For about one whole month all we did was promote our album on broadcasts. We had a great time introducing the band and our album. We both anticipated and feared talking about our transformation from before and after this album, but a lot of people are loving it and giving us good commentary, so we feel a sense of responsibility all the more.
Q. We heard that you will be holding a solo concert called “Beyond.” Please tell us a little more about it.
Moon Kim) This concert will be our second solo concert. This goes for all our albums, but for [3.3] especially, all the songs each have their own unique sound and genre. They also incorporate a lot of the member’s real stories that we really wanted to show, so that’s how we started the plans for this concert. As we continued to plan, we became a lot clearer in what we wanted to do.
We started off with the theme of “Beyond Your Imagination,” and we planned to show everything about RP- from our debut up until now- including things we haven’t been able to show you thus far. We think it’ll definitely be a concert that can show fans something that is beyond their imagination. That said, we decided to call the concert “Beyond.” We’re definitely going to hold up to the slogan, and we’re doing our best to prepare and practice, so we hope a lot of people come to see us.
Q. Is there something in particular you are especially invested in for this concert?
EXSY) If you think of the meaning behind the word “Beyond” I think that’s exactly it. If I talk too much about the past, they might become spoilers, though… (laugh) Ah, and as a special guest, Yoon Dohyun will be joining us. It would be great if you would please anticipate that collaboration stage!
Q. What relation do you have with special guest Yoon Dohyun?
James Lee) As a solo artist and band member, Yoon Dohyun is our role-model. He’s one of the great pillars for rock music in Korea. Yoon Dohyun has always been one of our acquaintances, and he gives us a lot of advice on our music. He is a senior that I really like and hold a great respect for, someone I think it would be great if we could call a our real brother.
While preparing for this concert, we thought it would be really meaningful if we could invite a senior whose musical career we would really like to emulate for ourselves, so we carefully sent him a request. We’re really thankful for the fact that, without a hint of hesitation, he delightfully agreed. He’s given our band a lot of support and encouragement. I think it might be the highlight of our concert… I’m already looking forward to it.
Q. Album [3.3], holding a concert on 3/12- You seem to be making quite a few connections to the number “3.″ Among your songs, please recommend one that will be good to listen to in March.
James) Our songs and March… March is a beginning, I get a really hopeful feeling from it. The intro drive and beat can chase off winter and welcome spring- I recommend “Too Fast”
EXSY) I recommend “U&I”- It gives you the feeling of starting a new love off with a spring breeze
Moon) I want to recommend “You” from our first EP. The acoustic sound in the beginning that blooms into a full band sound in the chorus really seems like it would fit a refreshing spring. It’s a bright song but the somewhat nostalgic melody encompasses the feeling of losing winter and heading towards spring- which I think fits the mood of March.
Q. How can one enjoy “Beyond” 200%?
Rather than thinking you are coming to a concert, please think of what it’s like to be “beyond” a concert. If you come expecting to have a good time together, you will definitely have a good time. We (RP) looking for our own “beyond,” so with this concert we hope that fans can have a great time finding their own “beyond” as well.
Q. Lastly, please say something to the fans who are always supporting you, and are waiting for your concert. Tell us of any future plans as well.
Thank you for always supporting us. Thanks to you RP will do our best to continue to develop and produce good music. While preparing for this concert, we are also working on our next album. We think we’ll be able to come back with news of our next album, so please anticipate it!
