[17.09.27] Royal Pirates’ Charming Farewell - [Hasta La Vista]

Universal Music | Naver Post

The three-member rock band Royal Pirates (RP). After announcements of Sooyoon’s enlistment in the coming fall and James’ departure from the band for his health, for the moment we will have to say goodbye to RP. In order to repay all the love and support they have been given by fans over the years, RP has come to us with a new album full of their original sound.

Back to the origin!! With the album title of “Hasta La Vista (Goodbye),” RP’s 4th album is full of the band’s unique color and all songs on it have been fully produced by members Moon Kim and Sooyoon Kim.

As their last album, RP has released all stops and have created an album that fully reflects their own musical style. Blurring the lines between the rock and pop rock, urban, and electric genres, they’ve created an exquisite mash-up of sound design and beats that cover up a broad range of musical depth and sophistication. The songs are an easy mix of the Korean, English, and Spanish languages, showcasing RP’s freedom in speech and sound across even international borders.

Trying things they haven’t before and branching out into new genres, we can sense that has gained a deeper understanding of their own unique sense of self- and it shows in their music. “Te Quiero” has an upbeat Latin rhythm, “Hasta La Vista” highlights a funky and light performance with an impressive rock sound, and the urban pop title song “Where U At” has a sweet piano note and melody- good to listen to in the fall season.

1. Te Quiero
A sweet song with a Latin music based and a tropical and pop melody. The song creates a great atmosphere but the soft melody and witty rap are the point. Moon Kim and Sooyoon write a song influenced by their pursuit of an enjoyable life journey from LA to Seoul; the lyrics invite listeners to join in on the trip.

2. Where U At
The arrangement and melody of this song makes you feel as if you’re dreaming, thinking about the person you loved- and it is expressed through the lyrics. The title song is meant to be light but has a dreamy feel. It can be interpreted as a love song, but also carries the weight of what RP feels for their fans.

3. Hasta La Vista
As the song with the most band-centered elements of the album, this piece expresses the sense of liberation that comes from parting ways in a relationship that’s already run its course. Breaking the stereotype that breakup songs are sad, this songs gives you a twist in its upbeat expression.

4. Angel
The piano melody in this song reminds you of the cold air in winter and the warm sunlight in spring, all with an impressive trap-beat. This minimal track showcases Sooyoon’s unique tone and vocals and his simple and plain charms.

5. Dark Chocolate
A sweet song that incorporates the basic electric piano of a traditional band sound, and urban and tropical elements. Moon Kim’s voice and the track’s calming nature fit well together to make you want to fall in love again.
